Geret Koper

Ringan geret koper, Berat kasih porter

What is come into your mind when you heard words "Choux" or "Choux cream puff?"
For me, that words will remind me to the final episode of Junior Masterchef Australia season 1 where the grand finalist, Jack and Isabella have a pressure test to recreate Adriano Zumbo's pear perfection. I think that was my first time hear about choux but I never tasted choux until today.

Fortunately my foodie friend, Gavrila asked me to join her to try a cute shaped choux cream puff in Rosebery area. I searched via Instagram hashtag about the place quickly and found some of famous Sydney foodies uploaded these cute items.

It wasn't my first visit to Rosebery, previously I came to this area for haveing a watermelon cake at Black Star Pastry. Located on Botany road, Doux Amour was really easy to found (thanks to Google Maps) and this place open from 10am - 2pm on Sunday (another thanks to Zomato app). We finally decided to come to this dessert parlour first before heading to another place to get our brunch.

I didn't see any other cakes on the display except these cream puffs. I found some mini dummy cakes on the right bottom but I don't think they have it on stock. There were 4 different types and flavors of cream puffs but we only chose 3 of them.

Penguin Blackie - Black Sesame

Rosie Pig - Lychee & Rose

Nutty Freckle Bear - Nutella (I believe you will love this one)

The cream puffs were yummy and they were not overly sweet. The cream filling was so light and soft. I like the Nutty Freckles Bear shaped with nutella cream filling. Cream puff with Penguin shaped has black sesame cream filling and the piggy shaped has lychee & rose cream filling. These two flavors were okay as I am not a fan of black sesame and when it comes to lychee and rose, I think I would prefer in a form of ice cream.

For drink, I only purchased one menu, Green tea latte. They have Sweet potato and Taro latte as well. It was really good to have a hot cup of latte on a such cold day. Psst today was 11 degree celcius and the wind was no joke, as a girl who come from tropical country, this Sydney's autumn is too cold.
Green Tea Latte

Overall, I really enjoyed my time in this place and I hope they will continue create another new cute and yummy menu. It was not really spacious cafe and it was full this afternoon.

I found a place where you can eat your breakfast, lunch or dinner by yourself, with a friend or even with family which not only serve great food but also have an art space with greenish view on the back and really close to playground. It's one a kind restaurant, right? This restaurant located in Willoughby, Northern Sydney called Incinerator.

we sat on outdoor area (it seems like for take away area LOL)

Incinerator? really? at first I was confused why they named it after this waste material burning machine. Well, it used to be a place for incinerator back then in 1930's which transformed into a nice cafe which located beside the Bicentennial Reserve now. It has indoor and outdoor seating, and you might want to take the outdoor seating when it has nice weather in Sydney, because I think when it crowded their indoor seating will become too noisy.

As me and my friend came during lunch service, we ordered Southern Fried Chicken burger and Wood roasted fish for our meal plus Mocha coffee and Pineapple, apple, lemon and mint cold pressed juice for our drinks.

Mocha Coffee

My wood roasted seasonal fish served with eggplant salad and lemon. I got King Trout for my lunch (this menu served seasonal fish, you might want ask staff for what kind of fish they have that day, when I heard it was King Trout I nodded my head quickly), it cooked really good and seasoned well. The skin was so crispy and the fish fillet was so juicy. As I do not really a fans of eggplant, so I might say this eggplant salad was okay and I can't believe I can eat half of it, my mom should be proud, lol. My friend who is a big fans of eggplant said it was nice and she helped me to finish the salad, big thanks to her.

My friend's Southern fried chicken burger served with savoy cabbage, parsley slaw, hot sauce and potato wedges. I tried this burger a bite too, I like it when burger buns toasted. Its karage chicken was juicy, slaw and cabbage were fresh.

The Incinerator serves coffee from The Grounds Roaster which is known by its great coffee. I reaaaallly like my cold pressed juice, I did not expect my drink would be sooo and refreshing, but it was, REALLY. Well, my drink was quite expensive but it was really worth it especially on the hot day.

We still have another mission to try their cakes and pastries, so we decided to order carrot cake and mocha cinnamon roll as our desserts. These two cakes were incredibly GOOD. Even my friend said it tasted like home baked by her parents and remind her for good childhood memories. I'm not the one who grown up with cinnamon roll and carrot cake, but I can say this Mocha cinnamon roll was really tasty.

Carrot Cake

Overall, I really have a great experience during my lunch in this restaurant. They served really nice food, I really satisfied with my super yummy roasted King Trout and my super fresh cold pressed juice (I really recommend you to order this drink, it was so refreshing). Finally I have to thank its carrot cake to close my delightful lunch.

Here we go again for another restaurant and cafe adventure in heart of Sydney. I can do cafe hopping most of the time back then in Jakarta but since I'm living in Sydney for this year and it is quite exy (slang word of Expensive in Australia) to sit down and enjoy cafe and dessert here, so I only manage to do this my favorite thing once or twice in a month, LOL.

Well, to be honest most all the dessert's price are similar like the one I found in Jakarta. I can found A$4 - A$7 eclairs in Sydney CBD and it pretty much have the same price with some eclairs when you visit one of the cake shop in South Jakarta area.

Ok, back to the story, last week I and my friend visited another one of the famous dessert parlour in Sydney, The Choc Pot. Along with its name, the famous this of this dessert place is chocolate-something which served in pot (a small bowl) or most of us known as molten choco lava cake. Unfortunately, we did not order that cake and chose waffle instead.

Pick a tea

Brownies selections

I visited The Choc Pot in Sydney CBD branch, located in Regent Place near Sydney Town Hall. The place was not really big but it look spacious due to its seating arrangement. It has brown and yellow domination colors, which reminds me of the "Woot coffee and mates"'s place in Jakarta, but this one is bigger.

It has some dessert collections from brownies, crepes, cakes to waffles, meanwhile for the beverages its have smoothies, quite wide range of tea selections and hot drinks. I ordered Honeycrumb waffnut and Japanese Cherry (green tea), meanwhile Mitha ordered Secret garden and white chocolate strawberry smoothie.

My honeycrumb waffnut was basically 2 round shaped crunchy waffles stacked up with rock salt ice cream on the layer, crunchy biscuit crumbs, topped with Belgian chocolate, salted caramel and upside down ice cone. I think I made a good decision when pairing it with a cup of tea to balance its salty and sweetness. I like the texture of the waffle, it crunchy outside but still soft inside. I crushed the ice cone, sprinkle the crumbs to my ice cream and finally scooped it together with the slice of waffle.

Honeycrumb Waffnut

Since I love tea, I really like it when The Choc Pot has some selection of green tea. I like tea with clear appearance and have fruit or flower mixture init. Previously, I cant decided which tea flavor should I choose. The Choc Pot has Japanese lime, mango sencha, Japanese Cherry from Green tea selections, white rose (white tea), passion fruit, white peach, berries & orange, apricot & peach from black tea selections.

 Japanese Cherry Tea (Green Tea)

Another dish was Secret Garden, a glass of dark chocolate Callebaut and white chocolate Callebaut topped with biscuit crumbs, chocochips and Strawberry. For those who wondering what is Callebaut, It is a company that producing high quality of Belgian Chocolate and yes its chocolate is REALLY GOOD. This Secret Garden's chocolate texture was really soft and smooth like panna cotta, I can eat this dish everyday, hahahahahah.

Yummy... yummy...

Our menus for that day :)

Overall, I really enjoyed my time in The Choc Pot. Maybe on my next visit I will come to their branch in Burwood, Rosebery or Chatswood to get another comfy dessert time experience and try their crepes, their famous choc pot and Green tea panna cotta latte, let's LIVE CHEEKY!!

Finally I have a proper cake hunting after more than a month since my last cafe hopping in Maroubra and Chatswood. At the first time I came to Sydney, I did some research regarding dessert parlour and coffee shop in this area and some of my friends recommended this place, Black Star Pastry.

There are 3 Black Star Pastry store in Sydney CBD, Newtown and Rosebery. Well, because it quite hard to find parking lot in the city and Newtown is to far from eastern suburb, me and my friend Linda decided to visit their Store in Rosebery. The exterior of the store is clean and minimalist with black and white dominant colors, while inside you will feel rustic ambiance.

oww pretty pretty cakeeee :3

Now let's try the cake

I picked the famous Strawberry Watermelon cake slice with almond dacquoise, rose-scented cream, pistachios and dried rose petals, meanwhile Linda picked mini Orange cake with persian figs, cranberries, pistachios, rose petals and candied coriander.

It was my first time eating a cake with dried petals on it, well I used to drink tea with flower flavors like Camomile or Roselia but this one is totally different. This cake was so light and those fruits were so fresh. There are slices of watermelon in cake layer which is surprised me and it balanced the cake sweetness really well. Meanwhile the Orange cake was just okay, well I like the moist and the cake consistency but somehow I didn't like the after taste in my tongue, it was a little bit bitter.

Too bad I didn't try their quiches and pies, some of the reviewer in on of restaurant finder said that they were great and really worth to try. Well, there always next time, right? on my next visit I will try their Quiches and Pies :)

Strawberry Watermelon Cake

 Orange Cake with Persian Figs

Overall I like my Strawberry Watermelon cake is worth to try because it uniqueness (have to try another cakes too), but It was quite pricey for me (Mini Orange cake A$4.5 and Strawberry Watermelon cake A$7.5)

**This Strawberry Watermelon is created using Halal gelatin (I really like it when cake shop really open to customer with their ingredients) you can check it here

It was my second time travelling to Penang and at that time lucky me I have my own Penang food guide. Remember my previous post about Postcard things in Penang and I borrowed pictures from one of Penang food blogger? yess..yess.. I met Jennifer in person last May when she traveled to Jakarta and I came to visit her in Penang on October.

She gave me some cafe lists to be visited and I chose this one, Living Room at Macalister Mansion. I love the picture in her instagram account at this place, this place looks so pretty. I knew about Macalister Mansion when I did some research about Penang but I didn't know that this hotel has a beautiful restaurant.

This place is known for its afternoon tea set with various TWG tea selections. They didn't serve the cakes and pastries on a cake tier but on a flat square thick tray. Living room has 3 different dining areas, we chose the room that close to the main door one which is decorate with hanging plant and nice tiles.

Simple yet adorable

Since it was an afternoon tea, it served in the afternoon. It starts from 3pm - 6pm during weekdays and from 2pm - 6pm during weekends. Living Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner meal outside those hours. It has so many tea selections and I randomly chose royal vanilla tea which is turn out so good and had a great smell. I think I might buy these tea bags in Jakarta's TWG store.

This afternoon tea set will cost you RM 39 per person with minimum 2 people. They served 9 different cakes and pastries from bagels, wraps, scones to pop cakes. They were a combination between sweet and savory cakes and pastries. Well, I think it was a big portion even for two people *we tried so hard to eat those, too much to handle LOL* so we decided to take home some of the cakes.

Here are our afternoon set

My royal vanilla tea, Oh gosh I love it, it smells so good

mini chicken tomato and basil quiche

mini smoked salmon bagel
this one is my favorite for savory selection

mini layered cake with edible gold chocolate
this one is my favorite for sweet selection

Overall I really had a great time during my visit to Living Room at Macalister Mansion, it has a really nice tea, nice interior design and yummy cakes and pastries. Jennifer said that they rolling cakes and pastries selection for the Afternoon Tea set, but we didnt know the exact time, can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly. I also knew Macalister mansion also has another restaurant called Dining Room, well it will become my next visit then :)

A couple weeks ago my friend Stephanie posted an article on her Facebook regarding to the opening of new restaurant in Chatswood area which owned by one of her friend. Hello Kitty? in Australia? Are you kidding me? I never thought that I would find this restaurant in Sydney region. I directly asked her to bring me to this restaurant one day.

You know, after I decided to move to Sydney for one year, I have to manage my expenses really tight, especially on food *sigh*. But deep down I really want to try many great cafes and coffee shops in Sydney, just wait and see.

When my friend got her day off, she asked me whether I wanted to go to Chatswood with her or not. I said yes immediately, since I haven't meet her since our WHV interview on last February. I can't resist the cuteness of this pussy cat so I made an exception to visit this restaurant, hahahahah.

This Hello Kitty Diner is located just above the Chatswood train station. Unlike other Hello Kitty cafes or restaurants, this place is not dominated with pink color and more likely featured American Diner style instead. Hello Kitty Diner served American-Korean fusion menu, confusing right? considering Hello Kitty was originally from Japan, well never mind. Staffs on the front house were using a cute Hello Kitty head band with white shirt and also an apron.

We ordered Gee Gee burger, Crumbed mozarella stick with jalapeno mayonnaise, Sweet potato fries with miso mayonnaise, Cappuccino and Salted pretzel milkshake which I considered as dessert hahahah. Lucky me, they served a new form of the Salted pretzel milkshake. They created a hip style of beverages in Sydney and also put one scoop of ice cream to my milkshake, me likey. It didn't take a long time to wait for our orders, really a good job.

Cappuccino - or I might called it kittypuccino?

Gee Gee Burger - Korean fried chicken, cucumber kimchi, pickled vegetables

Sweet potato fries with miso mayonnaise

Crumbed mozzarella sticks with jalapeno mayonnaise

My favorite was Gee Gee burger, its Korean fried chicken was really crispy and the vegetables were really fresh. For my Indonesian friend, if you have a plan to visit this place, make sure you bring your own ketchup or chili sauce as they will not provide you one (I know you will love this meal with those sauces). For the sweet potato fries and crumbed mozzarella sticks were slightly overcooked as you can see it was a little dark brown but it really match with their dipping sauce. I like their miso mayonnaise rather than jalapeno mayonnaise. I like the crunchiness of their Mozzarella sticks and you better consume it while it still hot, otherwise its cheese will not really melted.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time in this restaurant and will pay another visit to try their dessert menu. I would love to try their hello kitty shaped waffle menu. *another day after I got the job in Sydney of course*
